    Question "Other" grevilleas

Recently I had accosion to prune and even cut down some old ornamental grevilleas (not Grevillea Robusta of Silky Oak fame). I found the texture and patttern of the wood very interesting and I am trying some carving for inclusion in my Assemblage Sculpture. Can anyone tell me if I need to treat or store this timber (more like big sticks than timber!) in a particular way or whether it will just not last like other garden prunings? Any info at all on these "other" grevilleas would be very welcome.

I think splitting is very likely as splits in dead Grevillea trunks are very common.

Paint the ends to try and minimize splitting. Any paint if you haven't got end grain sealer. Or tree wound sealer. Or wax.

Seems to be a lot of tension in these and you will find of you keep the pieces whole, in spite of any end sealing, they will split right through to the heart.
Cut them up right away and cut out the pith, seal the ends and stack for air drying. If you want to turn some little bowls (and they will be quite small), rough turn right away and leave aside for 6 months to dry before finishing,
Some material will distort a lot while drying, some won't. Good Luck.
But you may conclude, like me, that it's scarcely worth the trouble.

Thanks everyone for your advice... a bit of splitting may not worry me for the use I have in mind... but I won't be counting on the wood for anything else.
