Hi Shane, welcome to the Forum. Let me get on my soapbox a bit here: all that imported stuff will be quite expensive, and not necessarily better than native timbers. The Maton website has a section on alternative tonewoods, check out http://www.maton.com.au/timbers.asp

Are you making mainly acoustics or electrics? Your list of timbers would indicate the latter.
    Cheers,
    Ola

Thanks for the replies, I am making Electric.

Looking for timber yards or timber recyclers for timber, the guitar shops and Luthier suppliers tend to be a little over the top with their pricing.

    Thanks

yes true thye may be expensive but they are often the top grade of the specific timbers used, ash, alder, maple etc//whihc even in an electric have a strong bearing on tone..an alder electric will always sound good...

in timberyards and recyclers u tend to get what u can find...u might getlucky and find a nice peice, some do..but in general if u want a good guitar, buy the good woods, around 100 $au is good for body and neck...

good blackwood will work for both....
u will need the good quality, well cured and stable pieces for a quality guitar...

    good luck

David... your link isn't working (

Auskart... I make electric mandos and ukes etc. Fijian mahogany is nice to work with and pleasantly priced, Tassie blackwood makes a great body timber for solidbodies, and Queensland maple makes a nice neck. "Australia oak" is ok for Fender style necks but a bit rough grained. I'm trying some Queensland silver ash at the moment to see what it's like for Fender style necks too. I currently use jarrah for fretboards but I bought a few boards from Stewmac and discovered that rosewood is actually quite soft, so I'm looking for an Aussie equivalent (and am about to make a post in this forum, so stay tuned!).
