Default Please help with timber identification

    Hi Guys

I am pretty new to woodworking

I am working on what I belive to be circa 1900-1920 rocking chair that has been pretty much destroyed by about 200 odd nails hollding the upholstery on.

Anyway I am wondering if anyone could please ID this timber, it is quite heavy and some of the nails really took a bit of effort to pull out, it it quite a tough timber, goes a golden light honey colour when wet.

    Thanks

    Simon E

Most early settler furniture came from Europe, the Oz timber was waaaaaaay too hard for early hand tools.

Very interesting, I suppose when you were born in the seventies and have a cupboard full of dewalt power tools you don't appreciate what "Hand Made" really means.
