Libidibia sclerocarpa
Hi Folks,
I just got back from a quick trip down to Southern California. In L.A., I picked up eight small boards of Dalbergia melanoxylon (African Blackwood). Each was about one board foot (superfoot to most of you.) In San Diego, there is a wood store with a sawmill in Jalisco, Mexico. He had just brought up a modest amount of Libidibia sclerocarpa. I grabbed a 4x4x24 and a 3x3x36 turning square. The timber was still relatively wet. Their respective densities were 1.31g/cc and 1.26g/cc. There's still a little bit left. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much demand so he rarely brings the timber up from Mexico. If you want some, here's the store: http://www.anexotichardwood.com/index.html

By the way, the African Blackwood boards were quite dense, as expected; from 1220-1330 kg/m^3 with an average of 1280 kg/m^3. This was eight boards or nine board-feet. Compare that with this:
