Hardwood weatherboards needed for 1890's cottage renno. NSW
I have an old cottage in the NSW Southern Highlands that has suffered the ravages of time but is still structurally sound enough to be renovated. Not that I am a builder, but I love the idea of preserving a bit of history and am willing to learn on the job. I'm trying to track down some matching hardwood weatherboards (and building material) to maintain the integrity of the building (the weatherboard has a simple 'V' shape). Any leads greatly appreciated. Cheers

Try eBay,
Whether or not it is hardwood or not may not be much of an issue if it is painted. Matching the profile is probably the major thing. Some pics of your boards would help a lot.
There are also salvage yards but stripping boards back etc is not a lot of fun

Thanks Dave, I've been keeping an eye out on eBay for a while but nothing has come up within reasonable distance to the S. Highlands + the asking price has been near that of new boards. I take your point re cleaning back - kind of hoping that I can hire in a sand blaster to strip back the old paint from the whole cottage. As I say, I'm no builder - am I dreaming?

Sorry guys, just seen the posts. I thought I had a great log for cutting - a massive Brown Barrel that has been down for many years. Unfortunately the advice from the locals is that the timber is crap - very soft and McDonalds for termites. At this stage its looking like cedar planks. Cheers

You could try www.radialtimbers.com.au
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything, but they
bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs .

Any small mill worth their salt should be able to cut them for you. All that is needed is a sample board to match them to. It is abit more mucking around than normal but that just makes life interesting

Thanks for the link - we are in the process of designing a new build so the information is very useful on several fronts. Looks like a great company. I also have a lead on a local company that has recently set up - they mill locally felled and recycled timber. Cheers
