Can anybody help ID this species of wood
This is used on the fingerboard of a Bass Guitar. I suspect it is Bubinga ( African Rosewood as opposed to Indian or Brazilian Rosewood with it's tight straight grain ) ) due to its swirling grain and black markings.
Can anyone elaborate or suggest other species that it could be.
Regards

your suspicians may be correct, what brand of bass is it?
heres some data on bubinga
http://www.exotic-wood.com/bubinga.htm
Botanical Name
Guibourtia Demeusei
Other Names
African Rosewood, Essingang, Buvenga
It's definatley a dlabergia/rosewood of some kind. Most guitar fingerbaords today are Rosewood, often indian as u noted but theres quite a few others in use. It could just be a failry gnarly peice of the general varieties. tho the golden color would be an indication its not."I am brother to dragons, companion to owls"

The Bubinga I have seen is usually more purple in colour. I think it some sort of Rosewood.
