Need Help to Identify - Purple wood / logs Gidgee ?
Sadly I can not ask my family member who purchased this what kind of wood it is as they are no longer with us.
We found in the shed a box of wood logs that are purple in colour.
I am hoping someone here may be able to identity it, or advise me of the easiest way to find out what it is.
All I do know about is that it was acquired over ten years ago now and has been sitting in the shed ever since.
I know nothing about wood what so ever, I have looked online for types of purple wood.
The words Gidgee, purple wattle, heartwood came up but I do not know the specific characters of these in order to know
for sure myself what kind of wood this is.
I had some trouble with the image uploader timing out, after 3 failed attempts I had to host the images here:

Yes that is what a lot of people call Purple Gidgee. Now as to species, then comes the debate . My experience is that pure purple colour for the entire depth of heartwood like you have is from the Acacia carneorum also known as the purple wood wattle that is now on endangered list. Others consider it to be what I know as Pink Gidgee Acacia crombiei. My experience is that Pink Gidgee has a pink/purple ring between the sapwood and the heartwood but others have stated it can have purple all the way through. The two Acacias however grow in entirely different locations and are rare and protected and I can't exactly go around chopping it all down to compare
Both are gorgeous timbers, hard as hell, but take a finish really well. Very popular with wood turners and for use in inlays etc
Although I am sure it would burn well, DO NOT let anyone use it as firewood . Where are you in QLD, happy to take it off your hands and put it to good use (self confessed Acacia addict/collector) . Perhaps you would like some lovely pepper grinders made from it in return for the memories.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Thank you dai sensei I really appreciate you taking the time to confirm for me what kind of wood this is.
At some point I would like to sell it but until I can work out how much its worth I cant work out a price for it.
I at least have a start now I know what it is.

Nah, worth nothing but happy to help out and clear some space for you
Seriously though, you should get a decent price for it, provided someone is willing to part with their cash. I've bought it in the past for $30 a small log but have sold it for up to $150 for a small log. You could put it up in our Market Place or Ebay as an auction starting at say $100 for the box and see how high it goes. It greatly depends on where you are too, being too heavy to post, it must be picked up.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Yeah I, for one, am interested. I agree with DS in that you won't have a problem getting $100 or more for the lot. Especially if it's 10yrs seasoned. What you have there is by no means common.
Good luck!

All together its about 11-12 kgs I think Australia Post is 20kg limit so your suggestion of one of the online market places is a good one.
