Thread: Help identify a slab

Grey ironbark??? Just a WAG... the bark doesn't look heavy enough but the wood looks about right.

Sorry Brad....can't help, only slabs I recognize have XXXX, VB, Crown on them......but John you may be right in the Ironbark family.

I'D say Ironbark, going on the bark, the sap margin and the fresh sap stain. Nice Slab!

What can be seen of the bark does look like Ironbark, though the wood is lighter than the ironbarks I am used to. I'll vote with Mapleman as he recognises the wood. As a botanist I usually like to see buds fruit and leaves to id a euc! They seem to be absent on this specimen ....

Thanks for the help all. I had a feeling it was Ironbark, it is certainly HEAVY.

After playing around with a power sander I realised it was pointless as there is plenty of material to remove and some twist to contend with. So I decided to go the router jig setup to expedite the process, thankfully the garage floor is level.

Jig is setup and ready to go for the weekend, so I will come back with a bit of an update as I progress.

Very inexperienced in woodworking, so I am enjoying learning something new
