Can you help with identifying this timber, and rough date of the table?
Hi,
I have asked a few friends, but came to really no conclusion. It seems there are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum, so I'm hoping you can help.
I recently got this old table on Gumtree, it's about 2500x1000, and was in need of some TLC. When I sanded it back, I saw the lovely natural patterns, and decided to keep it that way.
I believe it's pretty old. There are two drawers in the centre, and the framing around them used iron nails, which have bled some rust. A friend reckons nails like this haven't been used for quite some time. Underneath, the planks are joined with several "bowtie" joins, as well as pocket joins. There are several sections of the table where splits have been repaired and new wood sectioned in. It is a very heavy table!!
I can't find any markings on it.
Thank you for any interesting info you might be able to provide!
Justin.

Thanks guys, appreciate your answers. I have had a look, and concur. It's going to make a great family heirloom, I think!
