Ersatz maple...eg pine or other cheap wood with a stain, much of my old furniture was similar pine with a maple coloured stain, the difference between Ersatz and real is a big thing. I'd never go back to the fake stuff.

When the label reads COLOUR it will be a light coloured base wood that has been stained.

See link for real maple as opposed to stained to look like https://www.woodworkforums.com/f187/w...-table-164154/

100% agree with Pilchard. It's made from pine and stained a 'Maple' colour.

This probably won't be much help but i have the same chairs with a veneer rectangle trestle type table, the chairs are made in Yugoslavia for Sidex, now when we bought it i recall seeing a label stating it was European Birch which is not on the chairs and the label on the table is unreadable now but looks the same timber apart from the veneer.

Hi whitey, Yes the very same chairs made in Yugoslavia and some 20yrs later I had to re-glue 98% of the joints
    All interesting though, thanks.
