    Default Help with timber thickness

    Hello, I recently purchased a piece of African Mahoany. It was in the 8/4 bin. I asked if the seller could resaw the piece to yield 2 pieced of 4/4 timber (minus the saw kerf). He called me to tell me the job was done and he said he had two 3/4 pieces. I asked why so thin and he said well the original board started at 1 and 13/16 inches. Is this allowed? I thought that 8/4 timber meant it had to be 2 inches minimum?

    Sbnx,
    I am not all that sure how timber is sold in The USA but In Australia the sawn dimention is given. You loose some in the plainer. Sometimes the dressed size is given as in dar (dressed all round). Sawn size has to be assumed unless otherwise mentioned. However I would hope a good dealer would explain this to people who are not tradesmen.
