Default Hi guys trying to source some unique pieces of redgum or similar for table tops

    Hello again,
I'm looking to source, in the future, some unique looking timber pieces for table tops. I'm not sure what they are refereed to as either. The closest i can find are Redgum slabs, which look massive for a hobbyist such as myself to manage in my little tool shed. However that look of a finished table top made from a Redgum slab looks very impressive. I'm open minded to the type of timber too, i only wanted to use Redgum as an example. The edges would not need to be straight, i would like to retain some of the character of the original piece. I am located in Melbourne around the CBD. Really appreciate your time and your help guys

    Thanks!

There's a member here "tassietimbers" who is actually in Vic (you could send him a PM). They seem to get some pretty special stuff. And if you want to have a look at something really BIG, search the timber milling forum for his thread on the "Mother log". Sensational.

Awesome ! thanks for the feedback. After spending a few more hours i believe i've discovered that the term i'm looking for is in fact slab! I'll be sure to ask tassie! I'm Really enjoying the prospect of working with slab timber, never really see two of the same so no mater what you do you feel like you could be making something unique. I'll be sure to send a pm to tassie once i'm ready to get this project underway. Just need to wait for some responses on my iron pipe question in the metalwork forums and i'll be ready. May also need to look at getting a sander too. Those bigger pieces seem to need a fair bit of sanding to bring out the features from what i've seen on youtube!

    cheers!

And if you're going for Red Gum or similar then you'll need a REALLY good plane, and sharpening stones to match!

    Default Redgum Slab

    Hi Pakros

Redgum slabs can be very impressive, and I have a few nice ones put away for coffee tables as well as bigger ones for the larger projects. I also have some nice myrtle burl slabs and some very crazy shaped huon pine slabs that were cut from stumps I salvaged in the late 1990's. Anyway, there are plenty of boards and slabs to have a look at if you come up to Rochester/Echuca. We can also organise to get the slabs dressed perfectly flat both sides, ready to fill and sand. Just PM me when you are ready. We also do a fair bit of milling out at the farm, which you can help out with if you're interested in getting covered in sawdust!

    Thanks also Fence Furniture!

    Cheers

    James
