Who wants some Huon Pine
Hi all,
A friend of a friend has a monster amount of Huon Pine down in Tasmania which we are going to bring some of it up into Queensland. It's going to cost us a lot and I was wondering if there is much interest out there for people wanting Huon Pine. It is dry and large amounts are available most of it in slab form. Before I go ahead and do this, does anyone know what a slab of this would sell for? Aprox 3metres long, 500mm wide and 50mm thick? We thought that we might be getting a little more up which will be better in transport costs and we could sell off what we don't need. Anyone out there interested?

Are we talking about plain straight grained stuff for boat building, or the highly decorative birdseye stuff? Makes a huge difference to price.

Dez,
I'm interested in buying some, but would need to see some photographs so I can see what sort of grain we're talking about, as I'm after the more decorative grained Timber for use in furniture. And as we're talking about a timber that is now subject to very restricted logging in Tasmania, I'd also want to know the provenance of the timber before I committed to buying.

A monster amount is a bit general. Would be better to give a specific quantity, or even better, a tally sheet.
As for price, it would very much depend on quality. Pics would help.
My advise would be to have your sales negotiations done prior to transport. That way you can load to order and drop off as you head north. The last thing you want to be doing is ratting through a bolster just to find a board.

Why doesn't your mate try to sell it in Tassie?.
Seems a bit silly shipping it up to QLD as no one goes to QLD looking for things made from huon pine. Just like no one buys stuff down here made from Queensland maple.

Hi guys. Sorry for the delay with my reply. At this stage I don't have photos but can get some. The guy in Tassie is picking the logs shortly and will be taken to be milled. I will have photos then. The guy in Tassie can sell them there but it's my mate from Queensland that wants some for furniture making and I also need some. So his thoughts were he will get a few cubic metres shipped up and then sell what we can't use or should I say, can't store.
My my post was to gain some knowledge as I have never used Huon pine before so I don't know what it normally sells for. We are happy to give discounts for larger orders and we can certainly arrange to drop off along the way.
As as far as quantity, I am told he has around 50+ cubic metres but at this stage I am uncertain. I should know more within the next month or two.

Are you able to give any indication whatsoever of the price you'll be asking?
Will you have milled boards? Slabs? Will there be thick stuff? Bowl blanks?
Is it dry?
Pretty much any kind of information would be good.
