Thread: Huon Pine

Rather then hijack another thread on huon pine I started this one. I know that a lot of people rave over it and it is very expensive.

A friend, an ex Tasmanian who is keen on woodwork gave me some about five years ago when I first started to take an interest in his workshop and machinery he had. Most of it was over my head, but I was fascinated by Carb a Tec and arranged for them to send him their annual cattle dog.

He gave me a piece of rough sawn huon pine 2.4 mtrs long X 150 mm x 60mm. I have treasured it, and placed it indoors in my shed on a straight rack , waiting to be used.

Maybe I appeared ungrateful at the time, because even though I thanked him, we are very good friends with his family, through my ignorance could somebody tell me what huon pine can be used for.

Their appears a lot of things it is not suitable for, unfortunately, from what I see, they are what I am interested in. he also gave me a smaller piece of Tasmanian Myrtle which i had been using as an end support because I had no pinus crapia handy, I have since hidden it in case my friend ask to do a tour of my workshop.

Can anybody help this wood ignorant fellow forumite out.
