    Default Identification Of Offcuts

I am kind of hoping someone might be able to identify the tree that these offcuts were from.

They started to split very quickly and I needed to get them halved straight away. Sorry no photos of the tree or branches.

Christos, the timber looks very much like Spotted Gum, but I'm not familiar with its bark. Bushmiller is the SG expert.

DJ, the bark doesn't look like Yellow Box, more like Yellow Gum, have quite a few of each on our block.

I agree with you Fred, which is why I suggested Yellow Gum first but have also seen box with similar bark on branches on very old massive box trees high up in the canopy.

Seeing that we don't have leaves/branches etc and going on the splitting very quickly comment, I'd be inclined to think it's a gum of some description.

I looked up the names of the species that was suggested and after doing more reading on the species I am thinking that it could be Yellow Gum.

It was just one of those things driving at night, in the rain at 200k an hour(more like 40k an hour) and coming to a bend I noticed these sitting on the side of the road. I parked the car on the opposite side and picked up these two which were the only ones that I was able to carry. Did I mention it was raining?

    Thanks guys for the information.
