Can anyone identify this tree please?

This tree came down next door (northern sydney). It's got a dark very rough bark (little like terpentine) but other than that, I don't know what it is. It certainly has the density of hardwood. Also, no foliage to help - it was a dead 20metre stick for years.
Anyone know what I might be dealing with? The bark in the picture is off the side of the same little slab it sits next to. The coarser bits of bark are missing. (imagine it shaved off the side of the remaining bark with my axe which I did before milling.log.jpg

Was the bark VERY coarse and black? Did the branches higher up have smooth bark?
I'm guessing it could be Iron Bark. Don't shoot me down in flames.....photo description this far away is very hard to get right.
Failing my first guess, how about Pussy Willow?Just do it!
Kind regards Rod

is this picture any better - it's always hard to tell with wet timber.

Bark was very coarse but definately brown, not black. Also covered everything as far as I could tell. I'll have a look at the ironbark pictures on the timber species sites. Thanks for the ideas. Tree was much bigger than tan pussy willow grows according the wikipedia
