Identify this type of hardwood and uses for it.
hey guys,
just wanting to know if someone could identify this type of hardwood, and if it shows up well for furniture making (dining table, side table etc..)
the wood was from my roof which i took down during renovations, and i have a whole load of them, and was wanting to know if they can be sanded and stained well as i dont want them to go to waste.
i have already attempted to sand it, and it looks good (using 80 grit sand paper, but im assuming i need a finer grade as its not totally smooth)
the mrs likes the color of the wood in its natural sanded state (i.e not stained) so i was wondering if a clear coat would seal and protect it, and not darken the wood too much.
thanks in advance.

Where are you located? As it may make a difference to what local wood may have been used in your construction, and your answer.

Thanks rwbuild for the reply.
I assume it's Sydney blue gum you are referring to?
I didn't know they made rafters and structural elements out of that! Thanks for the insight...
