Ipe Burning Characteristics
Can anyone tell me if there are any health hazards associated with burning Ipe? I know that the sawdust can sometimes cause skin or breathing irritation but was not able to find any information regarding burning. Thanks.

Maybe I am dumb but what is Ipe?
I did a search in Google and came up with 123,000 hits, "International Petrol Exchange" and the like, but nothing that I am likely to have in my workshop.
It only takes one drink to get me loaded. Trouble is, I can't remember if it's the thirteenth or fourteenth.

Scratch my last reply. I found it at hit number 19,432.
I am on leave, it is raining and I had nothing better to do.

Not sure about health hazards directly associated with burning it, but I recon if you've imported brazilian rainforest timber and you are considering putting fire to it, there may be a health hazard there somewhere.
Haven't we got enough local timber to burn ???
On a different topic - the other day 4corners bought up the case of illegally harvested indonesian rainforest timbers being smuggled to third party countries who are making plyboard for export into Australia. Keep an eye out for aussie ownend, aussie manufactured stencils until further info is available. Building industry reps and unions will soon be taking this issue further to help prevent this destruction. See link for deatils:

(PS. as for burning most timbers, yes smoke is hazardous to your health. It can contain on average over 100 compounds that are or are thought to be carcinogenic, depending upon burn condidtions).
