    Default Ipe in Sydney

    Hey guys,
I've been looking around but can't seem to find any place in Sydney that supplies Ipe, although it is supposed to be a common decking material (maybe only in America). I was just wondering if anybody out there knows where to find some.
    Thanks,
    Tom

EDIT: Apparently this is my first post. I thought I'd posted before, sorry. My name is Tom, as you've now read, and I live near Castle Hill in Sydney. I look through these boards a little but my woddworking interest is bowyery at the moment, which isn't particularly common here, I think.

I looked around for it some years back as I also intended to make bows with it. I could not find any. Ironbark would do a similar job and be the closest Aus wood to it. Spotted gum is another that works. Check out the Ozbow site as there are a lot of people making bows from local wood.

    Hi Tom,

Ipe is also known as Brazilian Walnut, so I suggest you look around for that. This site in Melbourne lists it a Walnut, Brazilian.
Trend Timbers in NSW also carries it, listed as Brazilian Walnut

    Regards,

    Rob

Yeah, I know. I'm a member on ozbow and recently used spotted gum for a bow. It worked alright, but I made the draw weight quite low. I haven't yet tried ironbark, though I've heard it is very good but very hard to work. Maybe I will give that a shot instead. Would you happen to know where any good suppliers are? I know that red and grey ironbark are both used for flooring and decking but I've never really run into any.

LGS, thanks, I'll look into it. Trend is not far away.

    Thanks,
    Tom
