    Default Ironbark??

I was curious whether Blood Ironbark (if there is such a creature) is actually blood ironbark or whether it's red ironbark. I was shown a sample of it in a timber flooring place and was told that the timber millers sort their Ironbark into Red/Grey etc.... and also into Blood Ironbark.

If so, how readily available is it?? As much as other Ironbarks??
All right chaps... back to work!

The ironbarks are usually sorted Grey from Red, but I've never heard the term "blood ironbark" bloody ironbark, yep heard that a few thousand times, maybe they mean "bloodwood" another royal timber that has deep red coluring with a dense structure, there more than a few mills who process it.

It doesn't show up on any of the durability tables - chances are it's either another species or come from a localised area with differing characteristics to 'normal' red ironbark (e.g. localised differences in rainfall, soil structure, temperature, etc can lead to major diferences in wood structure).

Blood Ironbark does not appear on any commercial or botanical listing I have. There are five iron barks listed for Australia, 2 that are "grey" and three that are "red". America also has timber with the local name of Ironbark but this is an entirely different species.

It is possibly, as already suggested, that its 1) a local name rarely used, 2) a simple confusion between the bloodwood and ironbark or 3) a "marketing" name somebody has come up with to sell material that may have similar appearance to iroin bark (e.g. one Sydney based company used the terms like "River Gum" and "Spotted Box" to market Asian rainforest timber).

I'm curious as to which timber/flooring shop gave you the reference Blood Ironbark?

Yep the closest I could find is Red Ironbark

Might just be local description for the same.
