    Hi Richie,

Okay now you have me intrigued, I also understand if you do not wish to tell me, My Mum and Dad have no wish to return to Kenya as they wish to remember it as they knew it, I cant remember much but some things are stuck in my memory.
    Cheers,
    Richie

MM i have only had the pieces sitting in the shed not wrapped up only put it plastic in case the little buggers escaped.

[/QUOTE]I meant that the timber was sitting in a shipping container for a long time, and it was 'sweating ' in there!..Cheers MM

Posted for Dinki Di as a test.

In regards to the borers in the PNG rose wood

I have some of this timber myself and just want to bring a few things to every ones attention.

Yes the PNG Rose Wood timber and burls did come into the country in a shipping container. So does every other stick of timber that has been imported into Australia today .

Every piece of timber in that container was ordered by Australian Customs to be treated using a product called Ethylene Oxide Sterilisation treatment. This treatment is $ 120.00 + GST per cubic metre and it’s 100% safe to then use the timber for food preparation, item such as fruit and salad bowls , chopping boards etc. This information was given to me by the company who does the EOS treatment for Australian customs

I checked my timber after reading this thread and can report that I did not find any signs of wood dust on any of my wood. From the minute it arrived in my under cover drying racks I have been using Naphthalene Flakes in several dishes obviously the bugs hate the smell of Naphthalene as you don’t even see a cockroach or spider in my ventilated storage areas.

Chris- Maple man is correct in saying that it is an Australian borer these rotten little bugs fly around at night and lay their eggs on expensive wood.

Dinki Di - thanks for the update on the borer issue. It just highlights how important it is to maintain vigilance over our prized timber stocks once we purchase it.
