    Default jarrah prices to climb?

I was just in WA visiting family and heard something from my brother-in-law about an agreement between the State Govt and timber millers. He reckons that Bunnings has made some deal whereby they get sole access to jarrah trees for milling and with the limited supply then the price could double in the near future. Does anybody know anything about this?

    Cheers

I would have thought that the ACCC would have been interested in any deals like that.

I thought Bunnies sold their Jarrah concerns to Gunns

I think this may be an urban myth in the making.

I know businesses have to make a profit, but in some cases greed is the same as shooting themselves in the foot.
This is why some of us buy from overseas stores or buy imported timber. In the case of timber if you are going to pay high prices then you might as well have something nice from overseas.
I dont mind paying a fair price but it gets up my nose when some greedy swine wants to rip me off.

I hope it is an urban myth, here I was about to race out and mortgage my house to buy tons of jarrah in the hope of making a killing. Is there such a thing a jarrah futures?

My BIL (new acronym brother-in-law) did say that the smaller mills had been considered but somehow they were locked out in the end.

Don't know about the Bunnings/W.A.Govt deal but you can guarantee that with dwindling resources combined with growing demand that costs for Jarrah as with all timber here in OZ will escalate.

Up and coming election with the encumbants willing to deal with the Greens and the resources will at supply and demand escalate beyond the average Joe wanting to make some furniture/etc, for his home, family.

Best value better than money in the bank is to store your own timber these day's by accessing it thru Auctions/garage sales and having your own resource to fulfil your needs down the track whereby costs are prohibitive.

Auctioneer told me recently that timber auctions are going to be drying up so do what you have to NOW!!

My thoughts for what they are worth

ALL Native timbers are going to rise in price due to diminishing forests etc.
Even privately owned bushland timber will be controlled.
When that happens Pinus Crappus prices will also rise significantly.

This might also be of interest to some of you :

I don't have any affiliation with this company, I just thought that it's quite on-topic for the thread.
