Large Jarrah Burl bowl
I'm not sure what to do with this. We bought this bowl years ago on a trip to WA and it has been on display holding various things ever since. It has now come time to downsize a few things and the bowl has to go.
I'm in a bit of a dilemma about what to do with it. As can be seen it has faded substantially and its clearly showing its age. The diameter is about 50cm and the walls are fairly thick so I guess it could be sectioned into blanks that could make a couple of smaller bowls or maybe box lids. These are not projects I would be interested in at the moment. Then there are also the cracks to consider dealing with.
I doubt there is much market for it as is locally so I'm looking for suggestions here before I decide to cut it up into pen blanks and try and sell it that way.
Thanks for any suggestions!

The best grain looks like in the middle, so I'd be cutting the outer cracked sections off for pen blanks, then return a bowl from the centre section.

Rather than cut it up
How about sanding it back and refreshing it
Who made it?

Hi Willy, There's no real point refreshing it as it is quite large and we are in the process of downsizing and moving soon. Even in our current house it has been sort of hidden away for a while. I can't actually bring to memory exactly where we bought it, but it was in the Margaret River and the attribution is Peter Godden, Boodjidup Forest Crafts. Funnily enough I do remember the guy in the local Mitre10 store who helped me box it up in cardboard (no charge) so I could take it home to Melbourne as checked luggage after I realized it wasn't going to fit in my suitcase!Franklin

Before cutting it up I would at least attempt to sell it as is, on Ebay or the like because "Peter Godden, Boodjidup Forest Crafts" has a bit of history and provenance read JahRoc Galleries History
Another option is to place it for sale as is in the Marketplace. Perhaps another turner is brave enough to use it as a "blank" and re-turn it.Mobyturns

Thanks Moby that's interesting info! I don't think it was ever turned I'd say it was excavated with an Arbortech.
I'll put the problem of what to do with the bowl on the back burner for the minute as I seem to be getting a few other problems coming up with the new house build. I just discovered the kitchen island bench has been installed 13cm off plan.Franklin
