Timber supply in Melb Eastern Suburbs
I have made sample CD Tower for a Furniture store in Melbourne from re-cycled ( and joined) Tas Oak floorboards.
The customer is keen to go ahead, BUT does not want joins. The first order may only be for a few units
I need good quality furniture grade timber, say 18-20 mm thick, 150 -180mm wide , in Jarrah, Tas Oak, Cedar etc
I have the equipment to re-dress second hand timber, even rough sawn, but DAR material will save me time.
Shiver Me Timbers have what I want, but I will need to take a cut lunch going over there. Mathews in Nunawading can get what I want , but their $18 per Metre is not as good as SMT's $12 which is my target price.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

Try the trading post or yellow pages - theres a lot of places that advertise flooring. Here's an ad I just found in the trading post online :
"Flooring, Tasmanian oak timber flooring, 115x19, brand new, 140 lineal mts. $3 per lin. mt. or $400 the lot. (03) 93721296 0419-002668 Kensington"
Of course that would be tongue & groove, price and sourcing difficulty will be higher for DAR. Some places I'd recommed for DAR are :
- Tile importers in Natalia ave Oakleigh south (Disclaimer : Although they are the cheapest I've found for some stuff, you usually have to be careful with selecting good timber, the staff are surly and you may have to wrestle with some determined tradeys)
- Kilsyth Bargain Center ? Visited them once, quite cheap and has been referred to by other members of this forum
If you're looking to recycle, why not visit some demolition yards ? Every one I've been to has floorboards, although what you save in price may penalise you in time for denailing and remachining etc.....
HTH,
Justin.
