Hi,

I managed to get hold of some old King Billy planks that would have been cut sometime in the seventies. They are very dry and, if they did not have the oil content would probably be useless. They are to be used for the hog timber (top of keel) and centre board case for a huon planked 14' day sailer. They have some very fine surface checking that does not go right through the boards. My plan is to soak them liberally in lindseed oil and use a two pack epoxy based primer before finishing with varnish. The oil will have a couple of months to harden before the epoxy goes on.
Can anyone tell me if this should work or if I should use some other method. The idea is to bring the timber back from the brink with oil before stabalising with an epoxy base to cease further drying. The timber still has an oily feel to it but has lost most of it's moisture content. Still strong with some flex but the surface checking is a bit worrying....

thanks

Warren
