Laminated Pine for outdoor table
I’m planning an undercover outdoor table and looking at options for the frame. I had a look at Bunnings and they stock 88x88 laminated pine. 2 types that could be suitable - Timberlink brand. Clear timber and looks decent. The other is painted - Woodhouse brand.
Has anyone used this for outdoor furniture? It says treated pine but It doesn’t seem to be the green coloured stuff. I had a search online but it’s not something I know much about. I’m assuming they could be glued ok? The base would be finished with paint.
Thanks.

I don't see any problems as it would be KD and stable but the only stipulation i would apply would be to make sure the framework and exposed ends are well painted once finished and that you use some kind of foot under all members that would be in contact with the ground.

Hi Lewis
There are many approved chemical combinations for treatment of timber.
One is CCA - Copper Chrome Arsenic - and the company Koppers is a leading vendor.
- Copper is a fungicide and prevents mold in the timber,
- Arsenic is an insecticide and zaps borers, and
- Chrome is a "fixative" and stops the others leaching out.
CCA treated pine has the familiar greenish colour.
The many other available treatments may be invisible or may darken the timber only slightly.
All treatments, including pressure treatments, only penetrate a limited distance, 3 mm or perhaps 5 mm, into the timber. Once you cut treated timber you are exposing untreated surfaces.
Put a treated pine post into a hole in wet ground and it will resist rot for perhaps twenty years. Your table and benches should have a much gentler life.
Cheers
Graeme
