G'day Chris - handsome in it's own right, let alone what lies beneath!
Btw, if you view the pics on your screen you can rotate them and they stay that way (before loading them up). Me neck's killin' me.

Uh oh! The pen turners are descending upon it. Chris - you must resist their requests - it's too handsome as is. Doug, help me out here.
How 'bout sandblasting it down to reveal some inner beauty? Claw Hama could have a field day carving something out of that I reckon.

Nice score
As for Bret he's most probably still in bed looking at the screen side on anyway being cold freezing day in the mountains.

A guy had plenty of similar stuff at Maleny at $7/kg, so it would make a very expensive lamp base. I agree though, the natural shape should be kept if possible, as the outside is as beautiful as the inside. Shame you can't core it.
Pen blanks should only be from smaller offcuts and scraps, its beautiful cast too, so nothing is too small. I have a large rubbish bin of offcuts from someone else, that was destined for the tip, ready for casting (one day ).Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
