anyone know where I can get a little oak?
Hi,
I need to make a few mirror frames and bathroom shelves from oak to match the cabinets the other half selected. Anyone out there know where I can get some oak?
I need say 1.3m lengths of 19 x 85 or so. Say 8 sticks would do. Recycled would be fine too. ( I used to have some oak from bed frames a few years ago but none left.)

It think American oak. Quercus alba? It's to match ikea oak... Which looks like American oak patterned plastic but the shelves have been requested to match.

Annagote in Marrickville or Trend Timbers at Windsor (both Sydney suburbs) would be my first port of call.
If that does not work, try someone like Rockler (USA) via the 'Net, they sell various widths and thickness of a variety of Nth American & exotic woods as 'project wood'.
If there is a Masters hardware in your neck of the woods, they sometimes have 'Red Oak' which is a Nth American oak species, somewhat coarser than White or European oak.

It may be worth considering your local cooper - the chaps that make barrels. They use either french or american oak

I think trend might be the best bet. Will give them a call next week. Sadly northern NSW is a little short on coopers these days
