I use it all the time, seals but stays flexible. I believe it can have staining issues with light coloured softer woods, but I haven't had a problem with the hard stuff I mainly use.

Hi there.
I have been using the Caltex sealer for years with no issues. I have found it does discolour huon pine slightly, but only about 2mm deep and this quickly dresses off when machining the boards. Completely covering the blank will slow the drying down, maybe too much. If I have any high value timber in an unstable dimension, like a 250 x 100 x 2000 back sawn solid redgum birdseye billet which may be prone to cracking on the backsawn faces, I water the sealer down to provide a very thin and even coat. The billets are then racked out on a long term drying rack, sometimes for more than 8 years for the thickest stock.
Cheers
James

If you do no good with caltex. Mobil make one as well. it is called "Mobilcer M". I bought a 20L drum a couple of years ago. I use it on logs to seal them before I mill them up.
cheers,
Jon

Caltex data sheet says Log End Sealant has shelf life of only 12 months. Has anyone kept and used it for longer? I figure 20kg would last me up to 5 years...if it keeps. cheers

I bought a drum of the Mobilcer M quite a few years ago. It has exceeded its shelflife considerably but still does the job.
