I used to use Mobilcer and when that was no longer available went to Caltex end seal. Used to order it through the local Caltex agent. Should be able to do that in Cairns if it is still available.

Hi there,
The original Caltex timber sealer was made by a company that is now called Azelis Australia in NSW. Caltex didn't sell enough to warrant its continued supply, but you can still buy it. It took me 2 years to track it down, just happened to chat to a guy who worked for Caltex for 20 years and he knew where it originated.
Call their customer service line on 02 99392188. The sales rep I have dealt with is name Raby.
It's available in 20, 205 and 1000 drums. There is a surcharge for orders less than $1000 I think and freight is never cheap.
We buy about 600l at a time which is expensive, but not as expensive as losing 6" of end split off each end of each board for 1000 boards! 1000 feet of furniture timber is worth a small fortune that I'd rather have in the rack than lose it to docking.
Good luck, pm me if you have no luck.
Cheers,
James.

James' contact for end sealer is the best bet, but I can see freight could be an issue.
Recently I was sealing the floor of our new bathroom prior to tiling. The product I was using was like thick tar and it occurred to me that it would be ideal for sealing the ends of logs. I have not put it to the test, but it looks as though it would be better than the "any old paint" in multiple coats I have previously used and could be an option if shipping is prohibitive. I bought it in a 15L bucket and will get the product name for you if it is of interest. It is thick enough to apply with a spatula!

Spoke to a chap from True Blue oils in Melbourne yesterday
They make a wax based product as well as a lanolin based one too
They apparently have an agent as such in Townsville
That will trim transport costs for me considerably
Big thanks for replies thus far
Good to have options!

I tried the Tru-Blu sealer when I couldn't find the Caltex product. It's very oily and didn't like the summer heat at all, simply soaked right into the grain of the timber and disappeared. It tended to leave quite an oily mark on the timber too, hence my continual search for the what I feel is a premium product. I couldn't risk oily patches on magnificent dining table slabs worth thousands. Just my experience with it, others may have had a better results and it may have improved over the past few years.
Good to see you still kickin' about too Paul, just cant get the sawdust out of the veins 'eh mate?
Cheers,
James.

Yes, still kicking although arguably not as hard as I once did. I will look further into the floor sealing product I mentioned before as it is intended as a waterproof barrier. It does not require stirring before use so I am hopeful it will do a similar job to the proprietary sealing products you have mentioned. Stay posted on that one.
