Looking for Camphor Laurel
I am looking for a source of Camphor Laurel(CL) preferably in the Brisbane area. I have read through the timber suppliers section in the yellow pages with no luck (none of them mention CL in their ads).
I only require 2 or 3 pieces suitable for woodturning (bowls 6-10" dia).
Thanks,
Lance

Gooday.
I would ring up woodturning suppliers and ask if they have camphor laurel.
There should be some specialist timber suppliers in Brisbane.
Or you could check out this site they may have something.

I might suggest you try phoning a local timber mill and see if they can put you in contact with a logger. I know there a lot of loggers in SEQld that burn CL its considered a weed. I was actually offered a truck load of the stuff delivered for nothing.
But otherwise, there are a few specialist timber merchants in brisi. They won't advertise they sell it, cause they proably dont sell all that much of it. You can only fit so much into a add in the yellow pages, before it sends you broke
Lazardes (spelling??) should stock some. They had some at the WWWshow earlier this year anyway

My local golf course cut down a camphor laurel a few months ago, and the pieces are lying in their dump just begging to be picked up. They're about 12-14" dia, 2-3' long. All you'd need is a ute to pick them up. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for the replies.
Thanks Tristan, I only have a circular saw so cutting could be a problem but I would like to grab a piece if it's still in good condition, I could wax the ends until I arranged cutting. Could you send me a contact # or the name of the golf club please?

Lazarides have some too.
cheers,
Lance
