Looking for Camphor Laurel in USA
Greetings all!
Well, let me first introduce myself. My name is Nelson Alonso and I'm a woodworker here in USA, New Jersey. I'm on an endless search to purchase some extra wide boards, or slabs, of Australian Camphor Laurel to experiment on a product over in my neck of the world, but haven't had any luck finding it already imported here in the states. I'm trying to locate a lumber supplier in Australia who is willing to ship to the USA in small amounts. I only need a couple of boards at first, possibly developing into larger orders.
Hope someone here can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in anticipation.
Sincerely,
Nelson Alonso

According to this website its already invading your country, not sure if there is any difference to the australian camphor laurel.

You might want to check with some 'lumber' suppliers down in Florida to see if they have anyBrett
Only Robinson Crusoe could get everything done by Friday!

Well, I've checked with many many lumber importers here and no one has it (Australian). Some have the Asian or Indian Camphor, or the one they grow in Oregon or California but it is very very bland and they don't have the wide widths I need. Nothing like the Australian one. I'll only use the one from down under . This wood has tremendous potential and it hasn't been discovered AT ALL in the USA yet. I did a search through the archives and might've found something. Talking to Stan who seems to be a great guy.
BTW, love your stakes mate! (Outback) the best stakes in New York, New Jersey hands down!!!

If you mean "outback steakhouse", I hate to tell you this but they are actually owned and run by a texan family and have no conection at all to australia. I went to the one in Tucson and despite all the "australiana" on the walls, I asked for a "bundy and coke" and got very blank looks. However the service and meal were really very good.

Man why did you tell me. They even have the voice answering service with the Auzy accent and everything. The stakes are tremendous though. Hey what's a bundy? Is that a burger? I'm going to ask them the same thing next visit but want to make sure I like what I'm ordering...

They cook the steaks on mesquite log fires, visable from the outside - top entertainment,...

Sounds like this one, in Scottsdale, is the same company - never been there... Only to the one in Tucson.

Back to the Camphor lumber, it looks like I'm going to find something else here in the states. It's way too expensive when you add all the shipping from Aus to USA. What a dissapointment....
