I have been recommended to use Western Red Cedar as my cladding ... but given the urban setting (backing onto a carpark and university) I would really like a timber that would age to a beautiful silver/gray similar to European Larch.

Back-story: .. We went through a bit of a battle with the council rejecting my submissions for an interesting textured finish; And though 'bugger em' and submitted
this for my finish ... and they accepted it!!

So I'm looking for a exterior cladding type material that would age like Larch ... sample pic here.

And would love some surgestions that arnt too off the scale price wise.

All outdoor timbers age to a silver gray, cypress is a close match to larch.

Looking at your picture I feel Paulownia could suit you. Do some research on it's suitability. If you decide on it I can steer you on to a Paulownia mill that should be able to help.

I agree cedar or cypress, available at most hardware stores, or at least will have access to it, hard to see in the pic, is it shiplap profile or SE watherboards? I'm pretty sure cedar shiplap can be bought dressed or with a sawn face. I personally think cypress will give the desired effect faster than cedar and cheaper.
