Would love some help identifying this timber!
Hello all
I'm trying to identify the timber from which this old object was made and would be really appreciative of your assistance. It appears to be some kind of paddle, perhaps for use in something like a bread oven.
It is heavy, solid and has a lovely patina and sheen from age and use.
I have uploaded photos to this google+ album,

and I have tried to capture some of the end grain and rougher parts.
(each picture is clickable for whole picture viewing / more detail)
The timber doesn't smell of camphor or anything else in particular.
Could it be Australian Red Cedar? I would think this might fit in with its apparent age.
I would be very appreciative of anyone's expertise here!
Many thanks!!

Welcome aboard. Have no idea what it is, but given you say it is heavy, my guess is that it is not Ausy Cedar.
Any ideas on where it is from?Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Hello DS - no, unfortunately, not a clue where it's from. It was in a suburban garage sale, and the sellers were disposing of some family stuff they knew nothing about. Someone has written a number "50" on the handle in felt pen - also a mystery.
