Default Marri available for milling Perth Hills Nov 2012

I've just joined the forum but have read threads on it for years.
I saw a thread recently discussing Marri logs and milling them.
We've got 5 acres in Parkerville WA which has a lot of marri trees on it of various diameters - some tall wide ones which we are having cleared so as to put an access track and building pad for the shed.
I was wondering if anyone who would be interested in milling them and taking the timber. The earthworks are supposed to be coming in the next week. If there is anyone interested in the timber I can see if the earthworks guy can keep the larger tree seperated.

    Cheers

    Default Wood to go

We've started clearing the trees on the block today. Predominantly Marri. Diameters 200mm up to 500mm.
If anyone has an interest in free wood for milling or firewood - (cut your own!!) in the Perth Hills area then PM me and I can organise to let you onto the block. We are up in the hills in Parkerville WA.

    Default Milling Marri

    Hello Fireflies
Thanks for your generous offer of a Marri. I am surprised that no one has taken you up, or responded. I am always looking for wood, but after cutting up a couple of huge Marri's, a giant Cape Lilac and some Jarrah, my wood turning club is full, my house and yard is full and I am a little tired of chainsawing.

Hopefully some one will accept your offer, shame to see it go to waste.

Now, on the other hand, I can never get enough Burl or Burl caps to be specific, anyone got any of them?
    Sincerely
    Willy

    Hi Fireflies

I would dearly love to get hold of some of your Marri but, alas, I have no chainsaw or any other means of cutting it. If you end up with a couple of smallish logs suitable for resawing on a small 14" bandsaw I'd love to have it. If I can, I'll see if I can find someone who may be able to help collect some for our Men's Shed cos" I'd hate to see it wasted.

    Cheers
    Geoff

Hi Willy, yes the wood is there for the taking. Unfortunately in our area large lots are being cleared, wood is stacked in 3m stacks and then burnt. Not now, with Summer fire restrictions on but the least best use for the timber would be to cut and dry it and use it for heating in winter.

    Geoff.
there always seems to be someone around with a chainsaw - I priced up a 450mm hire one a while ago at one of the Midland hire companies a while back - it seemed a decent enough price - cannot remember exactly how much but let me know if you find someone to do some chopping.

    cheers,

Hi - I don't normally look at this section, but caught the post on the RHS when I logged in.

I have a 900mm chainsaw and would certainly like to have a chance to do some cutting ... for Geoff too ... perhaps we can make some time to meet or speak together.

    Thanks very much,
    Paul.

    Paul.

Hi Paul, that sounds like a mighty fine chainsaw - have you tried milling slabs of timber with that? Most hire shops seem to have 450mm max blade length. Perhaps they don't like cleaning amputation wounds off the hire equipment. . .

Send us a PM when you want to meet there or a contact number and I can arrange to meet you +/- Geoff. Some week days are OK, or weekends. The earthworks guy will be there MT & ThFr this week. But Wednesday or this weekend you could have a fairly good run at it.

    Cheers

    Hi Fireflies

I would relish the opportunity to come up and gather up some timber. Thankyou.

    Paul

If you're happy to help out, I'm certainly happy to come along and provide some labour or do whatever I can to assist and earn your help. I'll PM you.

    Cheers
