Marshals timber, Newcastle
Has anyone used these guys? Found them on the interwebs and they look like they have a good range. No prices. Looks like they'll cut and size too.
I need to source some cheap hardwood for workshop cabinet face frames

Hi Bernmc
Marshalls are basically builders supplies - they will have a better range of timber than the BGS, likely will have the most commonly used hardwoods in stock and probably beat the BGS on price as well. Cheap hardwood? - well that won't be easy unless you can find some damaged stock that you can resize and re-joint/dress to your needs.
If you want hardwood for face frames (ie you will be looking at it so it should look good) your cheapest option is recycled hardwood from demolition yard or unused rough sawn hardwood in larger sections (which you can resaw into your required sizes) then joint and thickness.
Depending on what machinery you have and how much time you are prepared to spend, the optimum solution may be to spend the money on dressed timber in your required sizes. If you do get dressed timber out of the racks check for straightness (ie pick thru the rack and select your own) as there will be some that is slightly bowed or twisted.
Hope this helps

Thanks Twosheds
I have a good jointer/thicknesser and bandsaw, so I can re-saw and size. I'll have a look at finding some recycled stuff.
Sizes are slightly odd (38x38mm, 100x38 and some 58x22mm) - I may as well put those machines to use!

BernMc there's a great demolition/recycle yard near Warnervale Airport he has lots of good hardwood there and you can pick through it, I've sourced heaps from him, very good.

I baulked at their tassie blackwood prices, I buy packs from the annual timber auction at rollands plains or now mostly gumtree. Same as you, I have enough machines to deal with slabs or rough sawn.
Marshalls wanted about 10k+/cube for 150*35 blackwood dressed, sydney I could get it at $6k/cube rs, I got a full cube mixed widths x 40mm from a forum member in sydney for $3k rs (quality and consistency was quite a but lower, but it works out well even with increased waste).
