matching a light coloured timber for a table
hey all
im making a table at the moment, out of a recycled rock maple bowling lanes... its all working good, but i need to make a edge around the slab, but im having trouble deciding which timber will suit
The edge needs to be 65x65 and light coloured timber. Its hard to find maple to match, so i was thinking something else. Im not trying to match it colour for colour, but in the same spectrum.
I was thinking huon pine, but im unsure of the availability for this size...
What are you thoughts or suggestions for other timbers?
Thanks Daniel

Are you sure you want to match it.........? If so perhaps a pic of the maple might give us an idea of the tone and grain that might suit. Shades of maple are wide and varied. Some quatersawn silky oak might look good (or not). A pic would help.
cheers

I agree, does it really need to match or would something contrasting look better?
For a match lightly figured sassafras, myrtle beech, tassie oak/mountain ash, yellow box or wandoo maybe even silver wattle
for contrast blackwood, redgum, or one of the many casuarina species.

yeah i wasnt trying to match it, but i didnt want a contrasting timber.
I was thinking recycled messmate, yellowbox or something. I think these timbers when recycled can have alot of black feature markings through them. Id like that look.
Thanks for all the suggestions
