    Default Material Ideas Please

    Help!

I am trying to build myself a "slide board". Basically an 8ft long, 3ft wide flat surface I can slide across standing either one or both feet. There are "bumper" are each end to push off and slide into.

I understand they were something of an exercise fad back in the 80s.

I would buy a commercial unit from the USA but by the time shipping and purchase are included makes the whole thing somerthing like $300+ which is expensive.

There are plans around on the net (well sort of) but they are mostly US based so hard to replicate here. Currently trying to source glossy formica but where do I find it?

I have already tried a smooth lino with Pledge, Protect-It-All and a Silcon Releas spray but not getting enough slide.Tend to stop about 4 feet short of the edge. Also tried a satin materail and a felt boot but so far no joy. Too sticky.

What ideas do people have on what materical use to make something simple, quick and slideable on (the slippery the better I reckon).

I turn to this forum as it may be able help give me some ideas on what materials might work. Would prefer something I can roll up but at this stage even a fixed solution would be find.

Not wanting to spend a lot as I have already spent something like $80 for existing material with no luck.

    Cheers

I thought the eighties reached Brisbane in the 90's, aren't you a bit late?
I can recall these from late night TV ads, they always looked like a knee injury waiting to happen

a commercial unit from the states might be the best option as otherwise we are only guessing waht material the board is made from

It could be polished plastic laminate on a thin substrate or one of the ultra-high molecular weight slippery plastics and without knowing you might be dropping more $ for something taht doesn't do what you want

While taking no responsibility for any injuries caused as a result of my advice...

    Try Google: http://www.google.com.au/searchq=sli...w=1288&bih=683

Like this: Slide board training - HFBoards They used white boards. Or this one: SlideBoard using paint and silicone.

And Ebay too: bannikovart | eBay

The material they use to make the top of slide boards isn't a normally available product and that's why they cost what they cost. There's decent priced ones on eBay that'll get to Australia for about $130 or if you have any friends that work at a University in the Sports Science department or a friend working as a physiotherapist etc. they can get them at a decent price normally. The last one we got at Uni was only about 100 dollars. They're used a lot for exercise rehabilitation so you may even be able to buy a second hand board from a physio.

If you're wondering what the good ones are made out of you can check this site:
    - Features a solid base with a Russian birch plywood core and high-pressure laminate finish provides support for the 1/8" high density polyethylene sliding surface.
