I have made a couple of model wooden surfboards 12" x 4". I have used some scrap pine I had. Looking at upgrading to some classier wood. Apart from western red cedar and some soft meranti, I don't know what to use. Can I get some ideas of woods not too hard to find? and are easy to cut and sand, and have a nice grain. (east coast nsw)

    Thanks Skeg

    A couple of suggestions
See what your local timber yard has laying around, they may have some exotic timbers in small pieces or keep an eye on the forum as there is often timber for sale and postage is reasonable for a small piece
Another option is go to vinnies or a second hand building materials yard and buy an old door or furniture piece you can cut up and repurpose

Anither thought to give you some more options with smaller sectional size timber and it would look really cool is to glue up a blank with a stringer of contrasting timber

You are right in the middle of Cedar country up there. See if you can get hold of a bit of subground stump or root material. The grain will knock your socks off.
