    Question MDF Suitability

Wondering if anyone could tell me if MDF is suitable for use in childrens cots or furniture in regard to it's chemical content? Is it totally safe untill you eat it or become exposed to the dust? Thanks for any help.

Even the fumes can be nasty for children. However I believe that, if it is coated all round with a good paint or lacquer it is ok.

However, I'll be blowed if I'd be taking the risk of making a cot for my child out of it. I believe also, that there are now some pretty stringent guidelines for making cots, due to the number of fatalities and serious injuries sustained by babies and young children over the years.

Hope this is of some help.

    Cheers - Neil

    Thumbs up

Thanks guys! I was just curious but if the project ever came to be I have a leaning towards pine(s). I did a lovely kids table and chair using construction ply (D-D I think) which after a great length of sanding came up beautifully with the contrasting light/dark wavey grains. Thanks for your help with the regs link. )
