Medium Density Overlay Plywood
Norm has been using MDO (Medium Density Overlay) plywood in some of his exterior projects since about 2000. MDO looks looks like a thin sheet of MDF bonded to plywoodbut is actually layer of paper impregnated with resin. Apparently the MDO layer takes paint well.
Does anyone know if this product or something similar is made in Australia? I understand it is not widely available in the US (ie Home Depot don't sell it) and you need to get it from more specialised joinery suppliers. This time, we didn't forget the gravy.

yess it is available, a mate of mine was using it for a while.
Mister ply stock it, possibly others.
It isn't cheap but it aint real bad.
The surface is smooth but not perfectly regular. you will notice some minor wavy texture of the grain comming thru the surface.
If you are expecting a totaly regular and flat surface loke MDF you may be disapointed.
If you like ply and want a quality flat surface try techniply, or a similar high quality burch ply.
A good high build sealer will go a long way on any ply.

What is 'Techniply' exactly. I e-mailed Mr Plywood, but all I got was a bunch of brochures that basically duplicates what is on their web site.
Also: any tips on where to get 'Birch' ply in Australia - Mr Plywood advertises 'Aircraft grade POA' - anywhere else for lesser grades?

techniply is just a brand of ply wood. It seems to have better surface quality & reasonably priced.
What are you looking for, properties ect and what are you intending to do with the material?
