    Default Merbau usage concepts

    Hello world of woodies,
I recently came across 400 odd metres of recyled merbau decking FTAGH, (Free to a good home, mine)
Its all good, straight timber in 4metre lengths, approx 90 by 20mm, nail holes a given, as it was removed from someone's deck. They must have had plenty of dough as they gave it to a friend of a friend etc.

It now takes up residence in my little shed and i'm seeking concepts /ideas for its usage, anything exept build a deck has potential (I live in the bush and the termites are so friendly my deck is concrete!!)

anyway ideas are short currently so thought i'd seek out hte use of thousands of minds all fluttering with new ideas.

    Cheers to all

I Have just finished some merbau screens in a local restraunt, owners very pleased. I also wrapped a wine cabinet, basic melamine job, in the stuff , I resawed the boards to approx 9mm on a triton t.saw, no cupping, but the riving knife was neccassary to prevent kickback and altenated 70 and 40mm boards in a horizontal grid. they should be suitable for cabinet doors, you can patch the nail holes and i think i remember reading that merbau is termite resistant, Rossco

    Tony,

There is plenty of things you can make with merbau,
I have attached a couple of photos of things I have made with secondhand timber.

The table is finished with a marine clear and the chair is just deck oil.

    Hope it helps. Pappy

    Hi gents,
some very good ideas there ,
i was considering another table top for the deck,
i have plenty of chairs but another under that big old tree never goes astray.
I like the photos Pappy , cheers, nice work!

Sounds like rossco has been a bit inventive also.
I won't be back in the shed till at least the W/E but it gives me thinking /drawing time till then.

    Cheers to all.
