Mexican pine.
HI Guys.
Just wondering if mexican pine is any good for furnature or woodturning. I have an opportunity to get one as it has fallen over. If worth while i will go and have a look. if its grains are like norfolkpine i wouldn't really bother I think.

Mexican Pine, Pinus patula.
I picked up a whole tree, slabbed, at auction about 5 years ago. More than a cube for about $200.
Visually it looks much like radiata. I've used a fair bit for general purposes where pine is useful. But I did make a natural-edge side table and some magazine holders from it. My slabs had developed some bluestain, but I stained these jobs red mahogany and I'm very happy with the result.
Will get some photos later today.Brian

Hello again, Jamie.
When I posted earlier I'd forgotten about the major items I'd made from Mexican Pine, beds for two Grandsons. These were also stained red mahogany and the boys and their parents were very pleased.
Unfortunately the beds are not here to photograph, but here are the photos I promised.
In my view at least, the dark stain does a great job of making a feature of the bluestain.Brian
