    Default Milling options?

    Hi All,

Some friends of mine had a hoop pine tree cut down over over the weekend and have the main trunk left. It measures approx. ∅1300mm x 4000mm long.

They would like to cut it into slabs and were wondering if there is anyone in the Caboolture, QLD area that is able to do this kind of work? Or is it worth doing?

Send a PM to Mapleman on this forum - he's located fairly close to you, and he may be interested.

Seal the ends of the log ASAP to minimise end checking. I assume you don't have log sealer so you could use some PVA glue, a few coats of any paint laid on thick. You should also mill it ASAP as blue stain will set in fast.

I assume they want to make something out of the slabs. Once milled it should be treated for blue stain and bugs straight away. The slabs must then be stacked and stickered properly to dry for a year or more depending on the thickness milled.

If they don't want the timber to use, but under the common misconception that the timber is worth huge $'s and expect to be paid, all I can say is that this is very unlikely.

Yeah they were thinking of getting a table made out of it. Thanks for the info I'll pass it on.

Definitely can't do this one as i am about to slice up the 'Old Crows Ash'...sad they felled it this time of year although blue stain occurs in winter here,as well as summer...MM
