In my experience it's more usual to be charged per cubic metre of log. Last time I had timber milled there was 7.5M3 of log and I was charged $150 perM3. This was about 18 months ago, prices may vary from area to area and if you only have a small amount you may be charged a higher M3 rate. Even at a 50% recovery rate I only paid $300 per M3 which isn't bad.

milling
thanks glen and mick. Had my logs milled by a local bloke. 5 cubic metres of european cyprus (toralosa) and 4 cubic metres of red gum, cost about $585 plus his traveling (half hour). 3.85 cubic metres of cypruss yielded 2.8 cubes of 200x45x5metres, havn't worked out the red gum. cost was $65 per hour with two others and myself tailing out, racking, stacking and strapping.
