any modified roof 'Extenda' brackets for pergola roof
Dear woodworkers / verandah builders
I am installing a decking roof, and to get extra height I am attaching it to the house by using some special metal vertical brackets, similar to roof "Extenda" brackets (roofextenda pty. ltd.) that go through the roof surface and are bolted to both the top of the wall plate and rafters. The vertical rods of this product are about 25mm thick. The holes through the roof surface are then sealed to prevent leakage.
I am not satisfied this product will be strong enough to support my roof ( 6m x 3m timber/colourbond, beams rafters, battens etc.) and have seen the same type of bracket used for this purpose fabricated from steel, approx 75 mm wide using square section steel, which would make me feel a lot more comfortable.
Does anybody know where I can source these, or will I have to get them specially fabricated. ?

I know the ones commercially available may seem a bit "flimsy" but they are engineered to do the job.
If you want something different you are going to have to have them custom built. That will set you back a few bickies as they will also have to be certified by an engineer.
There is a crowd here in Qld., at Capalaba I think, called "Secure Steel". They have a slightly stronger version of the commonly available bracket
Also, try the Renovate Forums. See the left hand column

I think they're a round section because it's easier to flash around afterwards ?
Even if the bracket will take the forces, you need to take into account the truss top chord or rafter you connect the bracket to will be taking extra load from the pergola framing. There's no point ahving a huge bracket if you're bolting it onto a 90x35 piece of pine.......

I had a google and found the Roof Extenda Bracket which must be fastened to the top of the wall plate as well as bolted through the roof rafter.
