    Default moisture resistant MDF

    Hi
    I was looking at making new sacrificial boards for my dove tail jig (12mm)

    does anyone know where I could source a smaller quantity of moisture resistant MDF in NSW

    I also get HMR Melamine and HMR MDF from a local joiner who largely specialises in very high end kitchens. Also get him to edgeband if needed.

    I thought of kitchen manufacturers

    but I was thinking most of their stock would be thicker than 16mm, definitely dont want melamine

    I'll check out the local kitchen dudes soon

    My guy mainly uses 18mm - "You can feel the quality" - great marketing line - but I have seen other thicknesses in his shop and used for jobs like door panels. Most of the MDF gets veneered.

    I tested some MDF from Bunnings by putting it in a bucket of water for a few days and the only thing that happened was I wasted the water because nothing happened to the MDF.

    Takes time. I have had MDF go like wheatbix.

    And HMR MDF is the same price as the ordinary stuff.

    Agree with Chris.

    I've had a big sheet of 18mm MDF sitting outside in the trailer for 12+ months. Fully exposed to rain, birds, hot/cold and nasties.

    Its full of holes from being made into a MFT top (PARF).

    Hasn't puffed nor moved a millimetre.

    It was just elcheapo Bunnings MDF. Nothing special.

    I had forgotten about this. Some ten years ago I left a quarter sheet of MDF on the corrugated iron roof for over a year - nothing happened.

    This totally contradicts my above post - must be product variability, a different brand of MDF, an Act of God, who knows?
