native pine
After the bush fires up at the Whitlands plateau and Tolmie in 2006 there were a lot of native high altitude pine trees killed and still standing. Well, not a lot but if you know what your looking for, there's a few about. Does anyone know of an especially good purpose to which this dense, close grained but brittle wood could be put?

Simon,
If its Cyprus pine you are referring to then it would have termite resistance, and would be a good building timber, but the recovery rate would be very low because of all the checking as it has dried out. How about hand split fence pailings? A rustic fence could be a winner.

I think that's a good idea. I'm thinking balcony railings when I saw them, and that's confirmed. Thanks macropete.
