    Default Nice pallet pickup

Stumbled upon these pallets this week and started to pull them apart and have dressed up some of the faces with the hnt jointer.

Would anyone mind throwing in their 2cents for identifying some of them as I'm surprised this timber has been used for pallets. If I didn't grab them he said he was going to make a few things into pallet furniture but burn the rest.

The one I'm holding looks similar to a toy crate I made for my son a while back due to the sap wood and blackbutt comes to mind. I clearly need to buy the Australian timber identification book again

    Cheers

I've had the same experience. I was given some timber that came from pallets with the results being the three boxes as per the attached photos to which the timbers look the same as some of your timbers. I think the green/cream box/timber is Sassafras as for the red/brown boxes/timber its unknown and I would dearly love to know the timber. Lets hope you have some luck.

    Fantastic uses of recycled timber!

It's quick thick so I suspect I'll be able to get some box making materials out of them.

Still have a few more to pull apart so will post any more variances over the next day or so

    Cheers

    Default what is this timber

I too have used pallet material and found it nice grain and different to normal, however I question what treatment it has received because some that was used for timber jambs about 30 mm [I'm guessing imported]thick smelt of some sort of treatment .

The stamp on the pallet shows the treatment and country of origin (the pallet origin - not the timber origin.)

HT: is the code for heat treatment using conventional steam or dry kiln heat chamber to a minimum of 56º C for a minimum of 30 minutes
MB: is the code for methyl bromide fumigation
DH: is the code for heat treatment using dielectric heat
SF: is the code for sulphuryl fluoride fumigation
