Default Really nice piece of timber

So I went to a new lumber yard last week to get a piece of maple. On my way out I asked the lady if I can have a look at some of their off-cut pieces, she says it's fine and that I can take whatever pieces I like for free. Found this nice piece of oak, it's not very big (about 200mm X 600mm) but I'm not going to complain.

That's an offcut . Great score

Here, our local hardware would probably still charge you $50 for something that big

Haha I was quite surprised when I saw it laying between the offcuts, it has a small crack on the one side so I suspect nobody gave it any notice because of that.. Who knows. I plan on going back to this lumber yard to have another look at what other gems they might have laying around.

Nice! ... I can't really tell looking on the phone and but is it a local SA 'oak' or one of the euro Quercus spp. ?

Looks like a wild old grain you've got there, I'd be dressing my scrapers!
...I'll just make the other bits smaller.

Here's the latest "off cut" I got from them, also for free.
